INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE THRIVE TOOL
THRIVE is a tool to help people in communities understand and prioritize the factors within their own communities that can help improve health and safety.
Registering: You can choose whether or not you want to register. If you register, the database will store your information for you.
Getting to the tool: You can get to the THRIVE tool in two ways.
- Option A - Identify priority health problems: Selecting this option will allow you to select specific health problems. When you get to the THRIVE tool, the community factors most closely associated with your selected health problems will be highlighted.
- Option B - View all factors: This option will allow you to go straight to the THRIVE tool.
Using the tool: You can click on the column headings in the tool to get more information about what they mean. You can click on any of the factors or cluster names to get more information about how they relate to health and safety. When you are ready, for each factor, you can assign a priority rating, a community effectiveness rating, and select those that you would like to take action on. Once you have selected community health factors for action, you can go to the next screen and information about how to strengthen the factors you selected will appear.
Navigating around the THRIVE website: If you want to move back and forth, use the ‘bread crumbs’ on the upper left side of your screen to go back to screens you’ve already completed. You can also use this feature to track where you are in the tool. There will be links on many of the pages to additional resources and/or information about elements of the tool and action steps.
Getting more information about THRIVE: You can use the tabs at the top of your screen to get more information about THRIVE, about a community health approach, about the community health factors, and about a process you can use along with the THRIVE tool to support local planning.
Getting to ENACT (Environmental Nutrition and Activity Community Tool): This tool to help communities improve nutrition and activity environments on a local level can be found by clicking on the ENACT tab at the top of your screen.
Getting to Prevention Institute’s home page: You can use the blue tab at the top right of your screen to get to Prevention Institute’s main website.
Giving us feedback: We welcome your input. You can go to the feedback tab to select one of two ways to give us feedback.
